Nicole Tuohey is the “Nic” in Case-Nic Cookies
My name is Nicole Tuohey. I was born with Triple X Syndrome, a genetic disorder which has created some developmental challenges for me. When I was three weeks old, my doctor said I might not walk, talk, read, write, do math or ride a bike. I was enrolled in Rainbow Preschool, a service offered by The Arc of Orleans County, at 3 months of age, where the Special Education Teachers, the Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapists all helped me reach my developmental milestones. In 1995, my Uncle Brian, an avid runner, wanted to help raise money for the agency, The Arc of Orleans County, which helped me. I will be 26 years old in May and I am still actively involved with The Arc. I have volunteered and walked in all 20 run/walks and will walk again this year. I bowl on the Vintage Bowling League that The Arc sponsors and I volunteer at the golf tournament and the Basket Raffle event. I was awarded the The Arc of Orleans County Community Service award for 2006. I graduated from Summit Educational Resources in 2011 and I now attend the Day Hab program offered through The Arc. I recently skated in the SABAH show with some of my Day Hab peers. I also volunteer at Case-Nic Cookies and The Book Shoppe. Although I face challenges every day with my speech and academics, I do walk, talk, read, write, do math, tap dance, ride a bike, ride a horse, play soccer, basketball, tennis, baseball and swim!
I truly believe that if you put your mind to it, you
CAN DO IT!
And don’t let anybody tell you otherwise!!!
Hope to see you at the Run/Walk on May 7th!!!!!!
